PROMATIS Business Process-Technologies in Water Supply
think Collaboration Services! and Oracle Collaboration Suite create the core of the operative system at the Mexican water supplier CAASIM
The Mexican province Hidalgo with its more than two million residents is supplied with drinking water by CAASIM (Comision de agua y alcantarillado de sistmas intermunicipales). In the course of an ambitious Business Reengineering-Project the business processes concerning everything about and around contract management and consumption billing, were completely arranged new. Based upon this, the Mexican alliance partner of PROMATIS, DigiPro, was commissioned to provide and operate a new business process solution. Carrying out the software development project with a volume of more than one thousand person days lied in PROMATIS’ hands.
The technological platform of the new web-based contract management and consumption billing is built up of Oracle Database Server 10g and the Application Server 10g, both as Enterprise Edition. For collaborative tasks (E-Mails, Files, Calendar ...) the Oracle Collaboration Suite was set on and integrated with the PROMATIS think Collaboration Services! From this product line, the think Content Manager! for document management and the think Workflow Manager! for process steering came into operation. A Management Cockpit for Business Performance Management was realized with think Performance Manager!
Workflow Management for 100,000 Customers
Based on business processes, documented by Income Process Designer, a system of workflows was first designed and implemented into the think Workflow Manager! based on Oracle Workflow. The workflows partially contain up to 100 different process steps and today they cover the complete operative business of the water supplying enterprise, from receiving new contracts over consumption billing and invoicing. Standard features are also all relevant services including the installation of water connections. And all this for more that 100,000 customers! And the customer is proven right by the evident profit of the consequent workflow-inset: the system remains easy-to-use and efficient at any time even for less qualified users.
In the workflows application modules are used, which were mainly developed in Oracle HTML DB, but some few also in Java. HTML DB had its prime time in the Release 1.6, which in comparison to the prior versions offers strongly improved Wizard- and Template-functions and very much simplifies the integration of Web Services. Evaluations were partially generated with the MS Word-Generator, an included function of the think Workflow Manager!, and partially with Oracle Reports. The Oracle Discoverer found its application for Ad-hoc-evaluations and online-analyses.
Document Management for Customer-friendly Workflows
Due to the regionally distributed structure of the water supplying enterprise with some branches without Internet access – but also for legal rights – documents have to be scanned and archived at a large amount of process steps. Important is that the documents aren’t just archived, they have to be reverted to again and again in the further process course to obtain a flexible customer service. For this reason the operation of a high-performing, fully integrated Document Management System was a crucial factor for success. For functional and economical reasons the customer decided himself for the completely Oracle-based think Content Manager! by PROMATIS. In comprehensive performance tests and in operation the correctness of this decision has already shown itself: after an initial filling with 1.2 million documents the additional data volume of more than 100,000 documents monthly does not at all in any way lead to noticeable performance-loss.
